A metafield definition adds a custom field to a kind of resource, for example a Care instructions field on products. Custom data first lists the resources you can add definitions to, such as Products, Variants, Collections, Customers, Orders, Draft orders, Companies, Locations, Markets, Pages, Blogs, Blog posts and the shop itself (Shop in Multi-Store Sync, Store in the Dashboard), with how many Definitions each has.

Open Custom data

  • In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin): click Settings, then Custom data. If you have linked more than one shop, pick the shop with the store switcher at the top.
  • In the Dashboard: open Shop → Custom data and pick the shop in the header.

Add a definition

  1. Click the resource, for example Products. Its definitions list opens, with Name, Namespace and key, Type and Pinned.
  2. Click Add definition.
  3. Enter the Name, and optionally the Namespace, Key and Description. Leave the namespace blank to use one reserved for StoreFleet.
  4. Choose the Type, for example single line text, integer, date, true or false, money, color, URL, a measurement, or a reference to a product, collection, file, page, metaobject, customer or company. Tick List of values if the field holds more than one value.
  5. Tick Pin this definition to show it first wherever this resource’s metafields are listed.
  6. Click Save. In Multi-Store Sync, use Save in the save bar at the top of the page.

Edit or pin a definition

  1. Click the definition in the list.
  2. Change the Name or Description and click Save.
  3. To pin or unpin it, switch Pin this definition on or off. This takes effect at once, without Save.

The namespace, key, type and List of values can’t be changed after a definition is created.

Delete a definition

  1. Open the definition and click Delete definition.
  2. Tick Also delete all values saved under this definition if you want the stored values gone too.
  3. Confirm. Deleting is permanent.

When changes reach the shop

Definitions are written to Shopify straight away, from both Multi-Store Sync and the Dashboard.
