Manage files: alt text and cleanup
Find a shop's uploaded images and files, add one by URL, fill in missing alt text and delete files you no longer use, in Multi-Store Sync or the Dashboard.
Files is a shop’s library of uploaded images, videos and documents. Both Multi-Store Sync inside Shopify admin and the StoreFleet Dashboard list a shop’s files, add new ones by URL, edit alt text and delete files, one shop at a time.
Open Files
- In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin): open Content in the app’s menu, then the Files tab.
- In the Dashboard: open Content → Files in the sidebar and pick the shop in the header.
The list shows each file with its alt text, status and the date it was added. In the Dashboard, a file without alt text shows No alt text, which makes the gaps easy to spot. Use the search box to find a file.
Add a file by URL
Files are added from a web address where the file is already hosted; Shopify downloads it from there.
In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin)
- Click Add files from URL.
- Enter the File URL and, if you like, the Alt text.
- Click Add file. You see File added. Shopify is processing it.
In the Dashboard
- Click Add file.
- Enter the File URL, the Filename and the Type, and optionally the Alt text.
- Click Add file.
Fill in alt text
Alt text describes a file for screen readers and search engines.
- Click the file in the list.
- Type the Alt text.
- Click Save (Multi-Store Sync) or Save changes (Dashboard). You see Alt text saved.
To change the alt text of a product’s own images, you can also use the product page. See Edit a product.
Delete files
Deleting a file removes it from Shopify for good. Anywhere it is used will show a broken image, so check first.
In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin)
- One file: click it, then click Delete file. The file is deleted at once, without a second confirmation, and you see File deleted.
- Several files: tick them in the list, click Delete files, then confirm with Delete files in the dialog.
If some files can’t be deleted, they stay selected so you can try again.
In the Dashboard
- Click the file to open Edit file.
- Click Delete, then Delete again to confirm.
What you cannot do here
- Files can’t be uploaded from your computer on these screens; add them by URL. Product images can be uploaded from the product page.
- The Dashboard deletes one file at a time. To delete several at once, use Multi-Store Sync.
