Customer privacy: consent by region
Choose the regions where visitors to a Shopify store must consent before data is collected, and where they can opt out of the sale of their data.
On this page
Data collection by region lists the regions with a consent rule. For each Region you choose whether Consent required applies (visitors must agree before data is collected) and whether Data sale opt-out applies (visitors can opt out of the sale of their data).
Open customer privacy
- In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin): click Settings, then Privacy. If you have linked more than one shop, pick the shop with the store switcher at the top.
- In the Dashboard: open Shop → Customer privacy and pick the shop in the header.
Change a region’s rules
- Find the region. Use Search regions (by country or region code) or the Show filter: All, Consent required or Data sale opt-out.
- Tick or untick Require consent and Require data sale opt-out. Changed rows show Unsaved.
- Click Save, or Discard to undo your changes.
Add a region
- Click Add region.
- Choose it in Region.
- Click Add, set its rules, and save.
Cookie banner and privacy policy (Multi-Store Sync)
Above the regions, Multi-Store Sync also shows the status of the Cookie banner, the Data sale opt-out page and the Privacy policy: whether each is enabled, and whether Shopify manages it automatically. This part is read-only. Use Open Privacy settings in Shopify admin to turn them on or off. The Dashboard shows the regions only.
When changes reach the shop
Consent rules are written to Shopify straight away, from both Multi-Store Sync and the Dashboard.
