A metaobject definition is a custom content type, such as Author or Ingredient, with the fields you choose. Entries are the items you create of that type. The Metaobjects list shows each definition’s Name, Type and how many Entries it has.

Open Metaobjects

  • In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin): click Content. The Metaobjects tab opens first. If you have linked more than one shop, pick the shop with the store switcher at the top.
  • In the Dashboard: open Content → Metaobjects and pick the shop in the header.

Add a definition

  1. Click Add definition.
  2. Under Details, enter the Type, for example author. The type cannot be changed later.
  3. Enter the Name and, if you like, a Description.
  4. Under Fields, click Add field for each field and set its Key, Name, Type, an optional Description, and whether it is Required.
  5. Choose which field is the display name (Display name field in Multi-Store Sync, Display name in the Dashboard), or Use the handle.
  6. Click Save. In Multi-Store Sync, use Save in the save bar at the top of the page.

After a definition is created, its field list can’t be changed from StoreFleet. To add, change or remove fields later, open the definition in Shopify admin. You can still edit its name and description.

Add or edit entries

  1. Click the definition in the list. Its entries open, with Display name, Handle and Updated.
  2. Click Add entry, or click an entry to edit it.
  3. Fill in the fields under Content. Required fields must have a value. For a list field, enter one value per line.
  4. Set the Handle, or leave it blank to make one automatically.
  5. Click Save.

If a definition has no fields yet, add fields in Shopify admin before creating entries.

Delete entries or a definition

  • To delete entries, tick them in the entry list and click Delete, or open an entry and click Delete entry.
  • To delete a definition, open its entries, click Edit definition, then Delete definition. Its entries are deleted with it.

Deleting is permanent.

When changes reach the shop

Saving writes to Shopify straight away, from both Multi-Store Sync and the Dashboard. Metaobject changes do not wait on the Approvals page.
