Edit a product: details, media, variants and SEO

Open one shop's product in Multi-Store Sync or the Dashboard and change its title, description, media, variants, status, organization and search listing.

Updated

On this page
  1. Find the product
  2. Change the details
  3. Change media
  4. Change variants
  5. Change the search engine listing
  6. Extra sections in the Dashboard
  7. What you cannot do here

Both Multi-Store Sync inside Shopify admin and the StoreFleet Dashboard can edit a shop’s own copy of a product. The product page has the same layout on both sides: the main column holds Title and description, Media, the variant sections and Search engine listing; the side column holds Status and Product organization.

Edits here change that shop’s product only. To change a product for several shops at once, use the Product Library.

Find the product

In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin)

  1. Open Products in the app’s menu. The Products tab lists the shop’s products.
  2. Use the All, Active, Draft and Archived filters and the search box. You can sort by Product title, Created, Updated, Inventory, Product type or Vendor.
  3. Click a product to open it.

In the Dashboard

  1. Open Inventory & Products → Products.
  2. Pick the shop in the header. This screen works on one shop at a time; if the header says all shops, it switches to the first shop.
  3. Filter by All, Active, Draft or Archived, or search with Search this shop’s products or SKUs. The In library column shows whether the product came from the library or is Shop only.
  4. Click a product to open it.

Change the details

  1. In Title and description, edit the Title and the Description (HTML).
  2. In Status, choose Active, Draft or Archived.
  3. In Product organization, set Product type and Vendor, add the product to Collections with Search collections, and add Tags with Add.
  4. In the Dashboard, you can also choose a Category with Search product categories.
  5. Save:
    • In Multi-Store Sync, click Save in Shopify’s save bar. You see Product saved.
    • In the Dashboard, click Save in the Unsaved changes bar. You see Product saved on the shop.

To throw away your edits, click Discard. You are asked Discard unsaved changes?; click Discard changes to go back to the last saved values, or Keep editing.

Change media

  1. In Media, click Upload images and pick the files.
  2. In the Dashboard, you can also click Add from URL, paste an Image URL, then click Add file.
  3. For each image, type the Alt text (Describe this image). Use Move image up and Move image down to change the order, or Remove image to take it off.
  4. Save the product.

Change variants

In Multi-Store Sync (Shopify admin)

A product with one variant shows Pricing, Inventory and Shipping directly on the page:

  • Pricing: Price, Compare-at price, Charge tax on this product.
  • Inventory: SKU (stock keeping unit), Barcode (ISBN, UPC, GTIN, etc.), Track quantity, Quantity (at your primary location) and Continue selling when out of stock.
  • Shipping: This is a physical product, Weight and Unit, Country/region of origin (a two-letter code) and Harmonized System (HS) code.

In the Dashboard

For a Shopify shop, the Dashboard edits each variant’s Price, SKU and Quantity. Quantity is at the shop’s primary location; leave it blank to keep the current stock. Other variant fields, such as barcode or weight, are edited in Multi-Store Sync or Shopify admin.

Add options such as size or colour

  1. In Options, enter an Option name (for example Size) and its Values, separated by commas.
  2. Click Add another option for another one. Shopify allows up to 3 options per product.
  3. The Variants table lists each variant with Price, SKU and Available. Click a variant to edit its fields, then click Done. Use Remove variant to drop one.
  4. Save the product.

Change the search engine listing

  1. In Search engine listing, edit the Page title, Meta description and URL handle (the path after /products/ on the storefront).
  2. In the Dashboard, when you change the handle, you can tick Create a URL redirect from the old handle to the new one.
  3. Save the product.

In Multi-Store Sync the listing is saved with the rest of the product. In the Dashboard, a search engine listing change goes through approval: you see Search engine listing sent for approval. Nothing changed on the shop yet. The shop keeps the current page title, meta description and URL handle until someone approves it. Click View in Approvals to follow it. See Approve or reject a change and Approval Settings.

Extra sections in the Dashboard

The Dashboard product page also shows:

  • Sales channels: tick the channels the product is published to. Live marks the ones it is on now.
  • Custom fields: the product’s custom field values. Clearing a value removes the field from the product.

What you cannot do here

  • Multi-Store Sync has no Category field and no Add from URL for media.
  • The Dashboard edits only price, SKU and quantity on a Shopify variant.
  • The Dashboard cannot create a new Shopify product. Create it in Multi-Store Sync, or import it into the Product Library and push it to the shop. See Create, duplicate or delete a product.
  • Multi-Store Sync needs the shop to have a location before it can open a product. If it has none, add one in Shopify admin first.
